Guwahati, November 20, 2023 – In a heart-wrenching incident that has left the city of Guwahati in shock, a 21-year-old cricket enthusiast, Mrinal Majumdar, passed away following India’s defeat in the cricket World Cup final against Australia.

The young man’s demise has raised concerns about the intense emotional impact of sports on fans.

Mrinal Majumdar, a student at the ITI in Birubari, was an ardent cricket fan. His passion for the game turned into a tragedy when India lost the World Cup final.

According to family members, Majumdar was so distressed by the defeat that he refused to eat or drink and spent the night in inconsolable grief. The following morning, he was found unconscious in his room.

Despite immediate efforts to rush him to Hayat Hospital, he was declared dead upon arrival.

The body has been sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. It is noted that Mrinal, a student at Birubari ITI, had no known previous illnesses.

Adding to the poignancy of the situation, Mrinal was the only child of his parents. His father, Ajit Mazumdar, is a clerk at NEF Law College.
