Guwahati, Oct 4: Assam Police have arrested two people, including a retired Army jawan, for allegedly sharing information about Indian Army movements with contacts in Pakistan, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday.
Sarma said the arrests followed intelligence inputs from central agencies. The retired soldier was subsequently working with the Indian Army on a contractual basis, he added.
According to the chief minister, the accused were allegedly in contact with people in Pakistan and passing on information concerning Army movements. He said they would be handed over to central agencies for further investigation.
Abhishek Kumar Singh Arrested in Guwahati
In a separate statement, Assam Police identified one of those arrested as Abhishek Kumar Singh, 31, a resident of Purba Champaran district in Bihar.
The Special Task Force arrested Singh from rented accommodation in Guwahati’s Satgaon area during an operation on the intervening night of October 3 and 4.
Police said the operation followed a preliminary intelligence input from Gajraj Military Intelligence in Tezpur. The STF worked with Sonitpur police to develop further information about Singh’s suspected activities and alleged links with a Pakistani intelligence operative.
According to police, preliminary findings indicated that Singh had allegedly passed sensitive information concerning security forces to the operative. Investigators seized a mobile phone, SIM cards and documents that police described as incriminating.
Electronic Communications Under Examination
Sarma said investigators were examining electronic communications, including mobile conversations and videos, as part of the probe into the alleged sharing of Army-related information.
He clarified that the initial intelligence came from central agencies, following which Assam Police carried out the arrests.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed the identity of the second person or detailed the specific information allegedly shared. The investigation remains ongoing.
