Guwahati, November 16: A wedding-bound group faced the threat of disrupted plans due to train delays, but the timely intervention of Indian Railways ensured a happy ending.

Groom Chandrashekhar Wagh, along with 34 relatives, embarked on the Gitanjali Express from Kalyan station in Mumbai on the morning of November 14. They aimed to reach Howrah Junction in time to catch the Saraighat Express to Guwahati. However, significant delays threatened to derail their journey.

The group, which included senior citizens, was set to reach Howrah Junction by 1:05 pm on November 15 and catch the Saraighat Express to Guwahati at 4:05 pm. However, as the Gitanjali Express arrived behind schedule at Santragachi, about 15 km from Howrah, concerns mounted about missing the crucial connecting train.

With this uncertainty, Wagh took to social media, tagging Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and railway officials. He explained their situation, emphasizing the presence of senior citizens in the group. In response, Indian Railways authorities acted swiftly.

  • The Saraighat Express was held at Howrah Junction until the Gitanjali Express arrived.
  • The loco pilot of the Gitanjali Express was instructed to expedite the journey.

Ultimately, the Gitanjali Express reached Howrah at 4:08 pm, just three minutes after the scheduled departure of the Saraighat Express. Railway staff worked rapidly to assist the wedding party, helping them move from Platform 21 to Platform 9, where the Saraighat Express was stationed. Despite the 14-minute delay in departure, the train left at 4:19 pm and arrived in Guwahati at 10:05 am on November 16, allowing the wedding group to arrive on time.

Chandrashekhar Wagh expressed his gratitude via social media, thanking Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and railway authorities for their prompt response. Eastern Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Kaushik Mitra, stated, “We are always ready to serve our passengers.”
