Kokrajhar, Mar 28: The District Magistrate of Kokrajhar, P. Uday Praveen, has announced a series of Dry Days across the district to ensure smooth, free and peaceful conduct of the upcoming elections, press release said on Saturday.
As per the official order, the prohibition on sale and consumption of liquor will come into effect from 5:00 PM on April 7, 2026, and remain in force until 5:00 PM on April 9, 2026.
The restriction covers the crucial 48-hour period leading up to the end of polling and has been imposed under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and the Assam Excise Rules.
In addition, May 4, 2026, the day scheduled for counting of votes, has also been declared a Dry Day, with restrictions remaining in place until the counting process is fully completed, including any re-poll if required.
During the notified period, all establishments dealing with liquor, including wholesale depots, IMFL retail outlets, bars, hotels, restaurants, clubs and country spirit shops, will remain closed.
The administration will also strictly monitor and restrict storage and possession of liquor, particularly in unlicensed premises.
The district administration has further cautioned that any violation of the order will invite strict legal action under relevant provisions of excise and election laws.
