Meghalaya’s Larityngkai, Verem Win Bronze; CM Sangma Applauds Achievement

Shillong, Mar 28: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday congratulated two athletes from the state for their impressive performances at the Khelo India Tribal Games 2026, where both secured bronze medals.

Taking to the microblogging platform X, the Chief Minister lauded Larityngkai Lawriniang for winning Meghalaya’s first medal at the Games.

She clinched bronze in the 53 kg weightlifting category, marking a significant milestone for the state.

Sangma noted that Larityngkai is among the athletes under the STAR Elite Pathway Program and said her success reflects the impact of the initiative in nurturing sporting talent.

He said, “Congratulations to Larityngkai Lawriniang for securing Meghalaya’s first medal in the Khelo India Tribal Games 2026 by securing bronze in 53kg Weightlifting. Lari is one of the athletes of our STAR Elite Pathway Program. Great to see the fruition of her hard work.”

He also congratulated Verem G. Syiemlieh for securing a bronze medal, highlighting that her achievement makes her Meghalaya’s first medal winner in any national-level sporting event.

“Congratulations also to Verem G. Syiemlieh on winning bronze at the Games. Verem’s impressive performance makes her Meghalaya’s first medal winner in any National Game”, he added.

Praising both athletes for their dedication and perseverance, Sangma said their accomplishments are a matter of pride for the state and an inspiration for aspiring sportspersons.

“Kudos to both our remarkable athletes and their coaches,” he said, acknowledging the role of mentors in their success.
