Unpaid For 6 months, Garo Hills SSA School Teachers Begin Indefinite Hunger Strike

Garo Hills SSA School Teachers Demands Unpaid Salaries

The SSA teachers of Garo Hills, under the banner of the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) on Wednesday began their indefinite hunger strike demanding immediate release of their pending dues for last six months.

The indefinite hunger strike is being carried out in front of the Chief Minister’s Office in Tura.

With Christmas round the corner, these disheartened SSA teachers are adopting various means of agitation to make their demands met. However, for the government, the issue ended up with election campaign promises only.

Meanwhile, AGHSSASTA has threatened to continue with the mass indefinite hunger strike till their demand is met.

While submitting a memorandum demanding the release of the pending dues to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma through the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, AGHSSASTA said, “If the state failed to clear our dues within these days, we will be forced to go for a mass indefinite hunger strike until we meet our demand,” the Association said in the memorandum.

The Association further asked the CM to expedite the release of six months’ SSA teachers’ pending salaries.
