Assamese People Should Take Control Of State’s Farm lands: CM

Assamese people have always been resilient against aggressors: CM

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday urged the youths of the state to dedicate themselves in agricultural fields, claiming that Assam’s fertile lands were occupied by illegal infiltrators who saw opportunities due to the local peoples’ disinterestedness for hard work.

He also called on the youth of the state to take up agriculture in a big way instead of running after government jobs and easy money.

Addressing a public gathering at Dholpur Gorukhuti in Darrang district, Sarma said that Assam must aspire to compete with states like Gujarat and Punjab in dairy and agriculture.

“Assamese people have always been resilient against outside aggressors and the time has come to prove that again by taking control of the state’s farming lands,” he said.

The Assam Chief Minister visited Dholpur Gorukhuti area for the first time after the state government freed around 5000 bighas of government land of the area from illegal encroachers in September.

Two people were killed and several others including 11 police personnel were injured in the clash between protesters and security personnel during the eviction drive.

During his visit, Sarma launched several projects there and also took stock of the activities undertaken by Gorukhuti Multipurpose Agriculture Project headed by Chairman cum MLA Padma Hazarika and to see the transformation and realization of the vision of agricultural revolution by indigenous population there while protecting Assam’s culture and values.

He said that all sections of the society must support the multipurpose agriculture project to make it one of the best in the country.

The chief minister noted that over 5000 bighas of land in Gorukhuti have been turned into agriculture fields, out of which 2731 bighas have been utilized for mustard cultivation.

The Assam Chief Minister added, “Let us make Gorukhuti a shining example of Assamese pride and prestige which will inspire our youths to work hard & prosper. Assamese defeated Mughals 17 times and it is time to regain our lost glory with hard work and dedication.”
