Tragic: Landslide Claims Lives of Four Family Members

CM Conrad Sangma Expresses Grief over the Landslide Incident.

In a heart-wrenching incident, four members of a family were buried alive due to a landslide triggered by continuous rainfall in Pynthor Langtein village, situated in the Thadlaskein C&RD Block of West Jaintia Hills District, Meghalaya.

Tragic Incident

The victims were identified as Biangki Phawa, 31 years old, Pynjanai Ryngkhlem, 25 years old, and their two kids, Edfify Ryngkhlem (6) and Vailadaroi Ryngkhlem (3). They were tragically caught in the natural disaster.

Rescue teams were quick to respond, and the bodies of the deceased have been retrieved. Authorities have confirmed that all necessary legal formalities are underway.

In light of the tragedy, the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills District has been directed to expedite the release of ex gratia funds. An amount of Rs 4 lakh per victim will be provided to the bereaved family members as immediate financial assistance. The local community and administration are rallying together to support the affected family during this challenging time.

Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma tweets: “Heartbreaking that a family of 4 lost their lives in a mudslide in Pynthor Langtein, West Jaintia Hills District due to incessant rainfall. Have directed the release of ex gratia amount of Rs. 4 Lakhs to the next of kin of each of the deceased. We are doing everything to ensure the safety of our citizens during this time. I extend my deepest condolences to their loved ones.”

The incident has brought to light the vulnerability of the region to natural disasters, especially during the monsoon season. Efforts are being made to ensure the safety of the residents and to provide all necessary support to those affected by such calamities.
