Shillong, Sept 16 : The Indian Army and the Royal Thai Army on Sunday concluded their joint military exercise Maitree-XIV with a closing ceremony at the Foreign Training Node, Umroi Cantonment in Meghalaya.
The two-week exercise, held under a United Nations mandate, focused on improving interoperability and familiarising troops with each other’s operational procedures and combat drills. Officials said the contingents successfully met these objectives through joint participation in tactical manoeuvres and operational discussions.

The exercise culminated in a 48-hour validation phase that featured establishment of a temporary operating base, creation of an ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) grid, village isolation, heliborne operations, raids and hostage rescue. Both sides also showcased and employed new-generation equipment.
At the closing ceremony, outstanding soldiers were felicitated and cultural performances highlighted the martial and traditional heritage of both nations. Soldiers also bonded through friendly matches of volleyball, basketball and tug of war, along with a cultural evening on the final day.

Defence officials said the joint training not only enhanced combat preparedness and shared best practices but also cemented defence cooperation and strengthened bilateral ties between India and Thailand.
