JK Tyre VP Inspectes Natural Rubber Nursery at Umshru, Ri-Bhoi

The Northeast is poised to become the leading region in natural rubber production soon. The Central Rubber Board (CRB) has initiated a special scheme to encourage farmers in Assam, Meghalaya, and other North Eastern states to cultivate rubber.
As part of the Modi government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat‘ initiative, a rubber nursery has been started on approximately 40 hectares of land in the Umshru-Paham village in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi District, bordering West Guwahati.

The nursery received a visit from Anshuman Singhania, Chairman of the Automotive Tire Manufacturers’ Association (ATMA) and Vice Chairman of JK Tyre, on Thursday. Singhania was briefed on the various stages of rubber production, from the production of rubber tree seedlings at the nursery set up by Omega Nursery, under the Central Rubber Board’s supervision. Accompanying Singhania were Rajiv Budhraj, Director General of ATMA; Dr. Ashritha, Project Coordinator; and V.A. Shakeer, Commissioner of the Rubber Board.

After inspecting the mega project, Singhania told reporters that every member company of ATMA would fully cooperate to realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a self-reliant India. He also mentioned that they would invest funds to establish rubber-related industries in Assam and neighbouring states once the rubber production process is fully operational. He sought the cooperation of state governments, local administrations, and the public in this endeavour.
Singhania expressed hope that establishing industries for producing various rubber products, including tyres, would create self-employment opportunities for thousands and significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.
ATMA is organizing a two-day special program in Borjhar, Guwahati, starting Friday. The event will feature representatives from the country’s largest tyre companies and officials from the Rubber Board. Titled the Indian Natural Rubber Organization for Assisted Development (INROAD) Project, the program aims to showcase the progress and various facets of natural rubber production in the Northeast.
