Guwahati News: Police Officer Faces Disciplinary Action for Recording Intoxicated Woman Without Consent 2

Guwahati, November 15: In a recent development concerning the incident on Zoo Road, Guwahati, a traffic police officer has been reserved closed for recording a video of a heavily intoxicated woman without her consent.

This decision comes after the video went viral on social media, sparking widespread criticism and raising serious questions about privacy and police conduct.

The incident atop the Shraddhanjali flyover on November 12 involved a woman stopped by traffic police for riding her motorcycle without a helmet. The situation escalated when the woman, in a state of intoxication, resisted police intervention and created a public disturbance.

A video recorded by a police officer, Raju Koiri, captured the woman pleading to be taken to the police station instead of being filmed, expressing distress over the potential social repercussions of the video.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, took immediate cognizance following the video’s circulation on social media platforms. The involved officer, Raju Koiri, faced disciplinary action for his conduct, which was deemed unprofessional and insensitive to the woman’s pleas.

The department has yet to decide on the course of action for other officials present at the scene.

The incident has sparked a debate on ethical policing and the rights of distressed individuals. Activists and citizens have voiced concerns over the misuse of social media by law enforcement agencies and the need for sensitivity in handling such situations, especially when it involves individuals in vulnerable states.

The police department is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. Legal experts suggest that the action taken against the officer could set a precedent for how privacy violations by law enforcement are handled.
