Assam News: Junior Assistant and Sub-Inspector Apprehended in Bribery Case
Nalbari/Lakhimpur: In a resolute move to combat corruption within government institutions, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department of Assam Police executed two operations resulting in the arrest of two individuals involved in separate bribery cases.
Nalbari Incident:
In the first case, the accused, identified as Junu Kalita, held the position of junior assistant at the office of the Executive Engineer within the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department in Nalbari.
Kalita allegedly solicited a bribe from a complainant seeking a contractor license for PHE projects in the district. Acting on a tip-off, the DVAC team apprehended Kalita red-handed with the bribe money in her office, seizing the funds as crucial evidence.
Lakhimpur Incident:
In the second case, Sub-Inspector Merafat Ali, employed at the Panigaon Police Station, faced arrest for reportedly accepting a bribe from a complainant entangled in a criminal case.
The bribe was allegedly sought in exchange for facilitating the complainant’s release on bail. The vigilant complainant approached the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department, prompting a thorough investigation into the allegations.
In a meticulously planned operation, department officials apprehended Ali in the act of accepting the bribe. This development underscores the department’s dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability within law enforcement agencies.
