First all-women high-altitude trek in Arunachal promotes empowerment and adventure tourism
Tawang (Arunachal Pradesh) Nov 12 : In a landmark initiative combining adventure, empowerment, and national pride, the Indian Army has flagged off the first-ever all-women high-altitude trekking expedition in the Eastern Himalayas from Zemithang in Tawang district, Arunachal Pradesh.

The expedition, flagged off by Lieutenant General Gambhir Singh, General Officer Commanding, Gajraj Corps, features women participants from the Indian Army, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), and the local Monpa community.
The team will undertake a challenging 96-hour trek through rugged terrain at elevations above 13,000 feet, after a week-long acclimatisation. The mission aims to test endurance and resilience while inspiring women across India to pursue adventure sports.

Lt Gen Gambhir Singh lauded the participants for their courage and commitment, calling the initiative “a symbol of grit and empowerment that embodies the spirit of new India.”
The expedition, part of broader efforts to promote the government’s Vibrant Villages initiative, is also expected to boost community engagement and encourage adventure tourism in Arunachal Pradesh’s remote border areas.
