The deceased guard was identified as Wangniam Bosai (20), a constable with the 1st Battalion Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn). He succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to a hospital in Dibrugarh, Assam.

“Accused Roksen Homcha Lowang of NSCN (K-NS) and another convict, namely Titpu Kitnya, snatched the service AK-47 rifle from constable Wangniam Bosai of 1st IRBn, Khonsa and then fired upon him around 5 pm and then both escaped from UTP Cell, Khonsa,” Singh, also the SP (SIT), said.

Arunachal Pradesh Police have launched a massive manhunt to nab the escaped prisoners, with the help of Assam Rifles and CRPF.

A case has been registered and legal proceedings have been initiated. The police also conduct house-to-house searches and maintain tight vigil in the area.

The NSCN-K is a banned insurgent group that seeks to establish a ‘Greater Nagaland’ comprising Naga dominated areas of India and Myanmar. The group has been involved in several attacks on security forces in the past.
