Tripura CM Launches Bamboo Cricket Bats And Stumps

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb was presented with Bamboo bats and stumps made by the BCDI, Agartala, under the mentorship of NECTAR on Thursday.

Dr. Arun Kumar Sarma, Director General of North East Centre for Technology Application & Reach met with Chief Minister Deb and presented him with bamboo cricket bats and stumps on behalf of NECTAR.

“Such initiatives will further our efforts to achieve PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s vision of optimising the GreenGold for an AatmanirbharBharat,” said the CM

“Bamboo bats & stumps are made up of bamboo glue board technology, It is a substitute for wood & contains sustainable material. This innovation will inspire our YuvaShakti & open more avenues of livelihood for the beloved artisans of Tripura”, tweeted the CM.

The bamboo cricket bat is 40 % heavier and 22 % stiffer than willow bats. This results in more power generating forces & thus the faster movement of the ball after the impact.

Bamboo bats have larger sweet spots as compared to willow bats.

A study showed that bamboo bats are much stronger than traditional willow bats. These bats have three times greater power generating capacity than the willow bats.

Bamboo bats are much thinner while remaining as strong as willow. These bats possess the capacity to sustain much higher loads.

This would favour the batsmen as the thinner blades can be swung more smoothly to transfer more energy on the ball.

The researchers also found that bamboo bats are 22 % stiffer than willow bats. This increases the speed at which the ball leaves the bat.
