Manipur Athletes Clinch Prestigious Hockey India Awards

Imphal, Mar 30: Sportspersons from Manipur have brought pride to the state with two prestigious recognitions at the national level, as highlighted by MyGov Manipur on social media platform X.

Nilakanta Sharma was conferred the Hockey India Ajit Pal Singh Award, which carries a cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the sport.

In another achievement, Bichu Devi Kharibam was honoured with the Hockey India Baljit Singh Award for being adjudged the Goalkeeper of the Year 2025.

Taking to X, MyGov Manipur wrote, “Heartiest congratulations to Nilakanta Sharma on receiving the Hockey India Ajit Pal Singh Award with a cash prize of ₹1.5 lakh, and to Bichu Devi Kharibam for being honoured with the Hockey India Baljit Singh Award for Goalkeeper of the Year 2025.”

The twin honours have been described as a proud moment for the state, with both athletes earning praise for their dedication and performance.

The achievements are also seen as an inspiration for aspiring sportspersons across Manipur.
