Imphal, Nov 17 : A joint operation of Manipur Police, CRPF and Assam Rifles led to the arrest of a self-styled major of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) from a rented house in Sagolband Nepra Menjor Leikai, Imphal West, on November 16.
The arrested insurgent was identified as Koijam Ibochouba, also known as Inao, Sumo, Somo and Pansareng, 45, a resident of Yairipok Malom Mamang Leikai currently staying at Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai.
He is wanted in connection with the 2017 ambush in Sajik Tampak in which four Assam Rifles personnel were killed.
Officials said the arrest led to the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, based on information he shared during interrogation.
The items were found buried inside a plastic drum at a farm in Kharungpat, Kakching district.
According to police, the recovered items included “01 M-16 rifle, 08 SLR rifles, 01 .303 LMG, 02 .303 rifles, 190 Amogh carbine ammunition, 30 SLR ammunition, 01 detonator, 32 SLR magazines, 04 7.62 LMG magazines, 03 .303 magazines, 06 .303 LMG magazines, 03 M-16 magazines, 04 INSAS magazines, 03 2-inch mortars, 02 IEDs, 01 remote, 02 electric circuits, 01 spirit drum and 01 mobile phone with a SIM card,” an official statement said.
Further investigation is underway.
