Srinagar, Nov 8 : In a rare and startling incident, an eagle crashed into the windscreen of a moving train in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday, injuring the locomotive pilot and landing inside the cabin.
The mishap occurred on the Baramulla–Banihal train between Bijbehara and Anantnag railway stations, officials said. The powerful impact shattered the windscreen, leaving the pilot with facial injuries. Railway staff immediately slowed down the train, ensuring the safety of passengers onboard.
“You often hear about birds colliding with airplanes, but this unusual incident involved a train,” a railway official remarked, adding that the eagle appeared to have been disoriented before the collision.
Fortunately, the bird survived and was found fluttering inside the cabin after the crash. The pilot received medical attention and was reported to be out of danger.
Railway authorities said the incident has prompted them to review potential bird-hit risks along the valley route, especially during migratory seasons.
