Guwahati, November 18, 2023: The Dr Bhubaneswar Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) marked a significant milestone today, celebrating its Golden Jubilee Foundation Day. The event, held in the institute’s auditorium in Guwahati, was graced by eminent personalities and marked by the signing of a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Dr. Dhruba Jyoti Borah, Vice Chancellor of Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences, was the Chief Guest, highlighting the event’s significance in the medical and academic community.

The day was further distinguished by the presence of Padma Shri Dr. Ravi Kannan, Director of Cachar Cancer Hospital and the 2023 Raman Magsaysay Awardee, who delivered the esteemed Dr. K C Borooah Foundation Oration.

The event saw a gathering of luminaries in the field of cancer research and treatment. Among them were Dr Sudeep Gupta, Director of Tata Memorial Centre Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer, Mumbai; Dr Achyut Baishya, Principal of Guwahati Medical College; and Dr Satyajit Pradhan, Director of Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre in Varanasi.

Dr. Bibhuti Bhusan Borthakur, Director of BBCI, set the tone for the day with a warm Welcome Address, followed by an insightful Director’s Report, reflecting on the institute’s achievements and future aspirations.

A highlight of the day was the signing of an MoU between BBCI and Fujifilm India Private Limited. This collaboration, supported by the Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnership under the Japanese Government, will bring an advanced artificial intelligence-supported endoscopy system (CAD EYE) to the institute. Mr. Tomosuke Okada from Fujifilm Japan was present to commemorate this significant partnership.

The Golden Jubilee Foundation Day not only celebrated BBCI’s 50 years of excellence in cancer care and research but also set a new trajectory for the institute’s future endeavours in advanced medical technology and international collaboration.
