Tawang, Sept 16 : Soldiers of the Indian Army’s Spear Corps are in the final phase of a mountaineering expedition to Mount Gorichen, Arunachal Pradesh’s highest peak at 6,488 metres, in the Eastern Himalayas.
The expedition, flagged off on August 20, was launched to promote resilience, team spirit and adventure while reflecting the Army’s ability to operate in some of the world’s toughest terrains.
Revered as a sacred peak by the Monpa community, Mt Gorichen is known for its steep approaches and unpredictable weather. The Army team has made steady progress through acclimatisation and technical climbs, displaying endurance, skill and determination, officials said.

The summit attempt is expected to begin soon, with each stage designed to test physical fitness, mental strength and teamwork under high-altitude conditions.
The expedition also aims to inspire youth by promoting the spirit of mountaineering and adventure, while reinforcing civil–military ties in the border state.
Officials said the climb underlines the Army’s ethos of courage and professionalism and will serve as a source of motivation for younger generations once the team scales the peak.
