Guwahati, Nov 14 : The Army has introduced an indigenous high-altitude monorail system in the Kameng Himalayas, enabling uninterrupted movement of essential supplies to remote forward posts located at 16,000 feet where weather and terrain often sever traditional supply routes.

According to an official press release by PRO Defence Guwahati, the system has already become “a lifeline to remote posts that have no alternative means of communication or supply links.”
Capable of transporting more than 300 kg in a single run, it supports movement of ammunition, rations, fuel, engineering equipment and other mission-critical stores across steep and unstable stretches.
The release stated that the monorail has been conceptualised, engineered and deployed by Gajraj Corps and is fully operational for day and night use in all-weather conditions.
It added that the innovation has significantly improved logistics reliability in locations that often remain cut off for days during heavy snowfall.
Officials further highlighted that the system also offers potential for rapid casualty evacuation in high-altitude operational zones where helicopters may not always fly and foot evacuation is slow and risky.
“It provides a safe and efficient means to move injured personnel across inhospitable stretches,” said in an official press release by PRO Defence Guwahati.
The Army described the project as a testament to the ingenuity and adaptability of the Gajraj Corps, adding that the in-house solution strengthens operational readiness and sustainability across isolated posts in the high Himalayas.
