Massive mock exercise tests multi-agency disaster preparedness in West Siang
Kamba/Along, Arunachal Pradesh, Sept 18: The Indian Army, in coordination with the State Disaster Response Force, Police, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, and civil administration, carried out a large-scale mock earthquake response drill across five sites in West Siang district on Wednesday to test inter-agency preparedness.
The simulation, based on a hypothetical 7.8-magnitude earthquake, evaluated the efficiency of coordinated emergency response under the Incident Response System (IRS) framework. Search and rescue teams, including specialized medical units, were rapidly mobilized during the exercise to assess real-time operational capabilities.

Key areas of focus included communication systems, logistical support, and seamless coordination between military and civil entities. The exercise underlined the importance of joint preparedness in minimizing casualties, expediting relief operations, and restoring normalcy in the aftermath of a natural disaster.
Officials emphasized that disaster management is a collective responsibility and that such exercises reinforce cooperation and trust among stakeholders. The drill also served as a reaffirmation of the synergy between armed forces and the civil administration in handling emergencies.
The exercise is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community resilience and ensure public safety in disaster-prone regions like Arunachal Pradesh.
