School Van With 14 Students Roll Off Road

A school van belonging to the Red Rose Academy School, carrying 14 students and headed for the school situated at Rongpur, lost control and rolled of the road injuring the students and driver.

The students when the accident occurred. The students boarded the bus from the Dudhpatil Durga Bari area.

All 14 students and the driver suffered injuries. Locals in the area rescued them from the van and all of them were rushed to the Udharbond Primary Health Centre.

After the preliminary check-up, the doctors of the PHC reported six students and the driver serious and they have been referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

58-year-old Shekar Das was driving the school van (MN 04 D 6849).

According to the eyewitnesses, the school van had a steering failure and so, when the driver wanted to turn and keep the vehicle on the road, he could not.

It has been informed by the local authorities that eight students have been discharged from the PHC after fast aid.

Questions are being raised about the road worthiness of the van.
