Royal Global University to host 5th convocation on October 31

Guwahati, Oct 28 : Assam Royal Global University (RGU) will hold its 5th convocation on October 31, with Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya presiding as Visitor of the university. The ceremony will also feature a convocation address by Rajya Sabha member Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi.

RGU officials said the event will be attended by Chancellor Dr. A. K. Pansari, Pro Chancellor AK Modi, Vice Chancellor Prof. A. K. Buragohain, Lok Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Assam Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, and Industries and Commerce Minister Bimal Bora, among other dignitaries. The announcement was made at a press conference on campus.

Registrar (Administration) Dr. Diganta Munshi said the university will award degrees to 1,967 students, including 1,093 undergraduates, 777 postgraduates and integrated course graduates, and 32 PhD scholars. He added that 56 gold medalists and 58 silver medalists will be recognized, along with special honours such as two Chancellor’s Gold Medals and five awards for literary and cultural activities, community service, mentoring, and sports. “A total of 1,967 students will be awarded their degrees this year, including 1,093 undergraduates, 777 postgraduates and integrated course graduates, and 32 Ph.D. scholars. Academic excellence will be celebrated with 56 Gold Medalists and 58 Silver Medalists receiving recognition for their achievements”.

Vice Chancellor Prof. A. K. Buragohain said honorary degrees (honoris causa) will be conferred on four personalities: Doctor of Science (DSc) to Dr. Naresh Trehan; Doctor of Letters (DLitt) to Sanjiv Goenka; Doctor of Literature (DLitt) to Padma Shri and Sahitya Akademi awardee Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi; and Doctor of Law (LLD) to Mahesh Agarwal.

This year’s convocation will celebrate Arunachal Pradesh as its theme, continuing RGU’s practice of highlighting a Northeastern state each year to showcase the region’s diversity and contributions.

Emeritus Professor Amarjyoti Choudhury outlined activities of the newly instituted Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Creativity, while Prof. Shiela Bora highlighted RGU’s work in culture and humanities.

According to the university, RGU has over 8,500 students, including international students from 13 countries; more than 500 faculty; and 130-plus academic programmes across 24 schools.
