Conceptualised by RGU Chancellor Dr. A.K. Pansari under the Gyan Sagar Foundation, Royal Anna Seva was launched on November 12, 2020, by the then Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to provide free nutritious meals to those in need. Over the past five years, the initiative has served more than 2,00,000 meals, contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 — Zero Hunger.

Dr. Kota, while launching the new chapter, announced that the initiative will now distribute 50,000 free meals annually, commending the university’s sustained efforts in community welfare and social responsibility. “The initiative reflects how education can be meaningfully connected with empathy and real-world impact,” he said in his address.

Expressing gratitude to all volunteers and supporters, Dr. Pansari said, “Royal Anna Seva embodies our university’s core philosophy — education with a purpose, grounded in empathy and social responsibility. It is not just about feeding the hungry, but about nurturing humanity.”

A street play titled Message Beyond Words was also performed by students to mark the event.

Since its inception, Royal Anna Seva has evolved from a modest act of kindness into a movement promoting inclusive service and compassion through daily meal distributions, pandemic relief drives, and community outreach programmes across Guwahati. The initiative aligns with SDG 1: No Poverty and SDG 2: Zero Hunger, reinforcing RGU’s commitment to a hunger-free and nutritionally secure India.
