Quick CPR by army medical assistant revives baby on Rajdhani Express

Guwahati (Assam), Oct 19 : A soldier of the Indian Army’s 456 Field Hospital saved the life of an eight-month-old infant who had stopped breathing aboard the Rajdhani Express en route to Dibrugarh on Monday.

Sepoy (Ambulance Assistant) Sunil was traveling in the same S4 coach around 4:30 p.m. when the child developed sudden respiratory distress and became unresponsive. As panic spread and the baby’s mother fainted, Sunil rushed to assist.

Assessing the situation calmly, he found the infant without a pulse or breathing. Acting swiftly, he placed the baby on a flat surface and performed paediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), alternating two-finger chest compressions with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. After about two cycles, the baby began showing signs of life.

Sunil then coordinated with the train staff and Railway Police to arrange medical assistance for the child at Rangiya station.

His prompt and professional response, officials said, averted a potential fatality in a situation where no immediate medical support was available.

Throughout the incident, Sepoy Sunil displayed exceptional composure, medical proficiency, and dedication to duty — exemplifying the army’s commitment to service even while off duty.
