20-day expedition celebrates unity and adventure in Dibang Valley
Anini, October 13 : A joint civil–military trek to Athupopu, a revered site near the Indo-China border, was flagged off on Sunday from the Anini Military Garrison in Arunachal Pradesh’s Dibang Valley. The 20-day expedition aims to foster deeper civil–military integration while celebrating unity, adventure, and faith across the state’s rugged terrain.

Situated 3,500 metres above sea level, Athupopu holds deep spiritual significance for the Idu Mishmi tribe, who regard it as a mythical gateway for souls journeying to eternity. The trek, organisers said, symbolises the blending of cultural reverence and national solidarity in India’s far-flung borderlands.
By marching together, Army personnel and civilians embody the ethos of “soldiers as citizens in uniform,” reinforcing bonds of mutual respect and cooperation. The initiative also underscores ongoing efforts toward nation-building and community outreach in remote frontier areas.
