By Poll in Assam’s Five Assembly Seats on October 30

GUWAHATI: The by-elections to five assembly constituencies in Assam, excluding Majuli will be conducted on October 30 along with three Lok Sabha seats and 30 assembly constituencies spread across 14 states, Election Commission (EC) announced on Tuesday.

The counting will be held on November 2.

In Assam, the by-polls will be conducted in five constituencies including 28-Gossaigaon, 41-Bhabanipur, 58-Tamulpur, 101-Mariani, and 107-Thowra.

The last date of nominations is October 8, and the date for scrutiny of nominations is October 11. The EC has fixed October 13 as the last date for withdrawal of candidatures.

In the Northeast, the by-polls will also be conducted in Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Nagaland.

In Meghalaya, the by-polls will be conducted in three constituencies including 13-Mawryngkneng (ST), 24-Mawphlang (ST), and 47-Rajabala.

In Mizoram, the by-polls will be held in one constituency -4-Tuirial (ST). Meanwhile, in Nagaland, the polls will be held in 58-Shamtorr-Chessore (ST) constituency.

The notification will be issued on October 1.

The other states, where the by-polls will be held include Bihar, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, and West Bengal.;

The Model Code of Conduct (MCI) will come into force immediately in the district (s) in which the entire or any part of the assembly constituency going for election is included.

The seats where Lok Sabha by-elections will be held are Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Mandi in Himachal Pradesh and Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh.

The by-poll will be conducted in Four are in West Bengal, three each are in Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Meghalaya, two each are in Bihar, Karnataka and Rajasthan and one each is in Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Nagaland and Telangana.

“The Commission has reviewed the situation related to the pandemic, flood, festivals, cold conditions in certain regions, feedback from concerned States/UT and taken into consideration all facts and circumstances and it has decided to hold by-elections to fill vacancies in three Parliamentary Constituencies of UT of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh and 30 vacancies in Assembly constituencies of various states,” the EC said.
