Final trek retraces 1962 battle route to honour soldiers’ valour
Guwahati, Nov 4 : The final leg of the Battlefield Trek series commemorating the 63rd Walong Day was held from Ashi Hill to Tri Jn Post in Arunachal Pradesh, marking the culmination of events honouring the soldiers who fought in the 1962 Battle of Walong.
The trek saw participation of 20 civilians alongside Indian Army personnel, who retraced historic routes where acts of courage and sacrifice shaped India’s military legacy.
Ashi Hill holds special significance as the site where Indian troops fought valiantly against a numerically superior Chinese force. Tri Jn Post, the endpoint of the trek, symbolizes the location of the first counterattack launched by the Indian Army during the 1962 war, representing resilience and unyielding spirit in the face of overwhelming odds.
The event served as a tribute to the defenders of Walong, aiming to reconnect participants with the legacy of endurance and patriotism that defines the region’s history.
