Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday announced that from next year Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) exams will also be conducted in Assamese language.
Addressing media persons in Guwahati, Sarma said that from next year aspirants or candidates will be able to write their APSC prelims and mains in Assamese language.
“It has come to our notice that Assamese medium students find it difficult to write their exams in English which are barring them from cracking the exam. Yesterday in the evening I received a WhatsApp message requesting me that if the candidates for APSC can write their exams in Assamese language. I was shocked for a while because I had no idea about the issue, ” the CM added.
The CM said, “I made an immediate call to the APSC officials asking about the language barrier and they confirmed me that the rules suggest that candidates can only write their exams in English which was quite surprising for me. IAS exams can be written in Assamese but for ACS exams candidates have to write their exams in English. So in the late night we came out with the decision of allowing candidates to write their exams in Assamese language from next year.”
