Kanchanjunga Express to get modern LHB rake from November 28

Maligaon (Guwahati), Nov 14 : Indian Railways will introduce a modern Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) rake on the Kanchanjunga Express from November 28 and 29, 2025, replacing the conventional ICF coaches to enhance passenger comfort and safety.

The LHB rake will be deployed on Train No. 13173/13174 (Sealdah–Sabroom) and 13175/13176 (Sealdah–Silchar) Kanchanjunga Express, which serves as a vital rail link connecting the northeastern region with eastern India and facilitating passenger movement between the states it traverses.

The upgraded rake will be operational from November 28 and 29 respectively.

According to Indian Railways, the introduction of modern LHB coaches in place of conventional ICF ones marks a significant step in railway modernisation.

These coaches are equipped with superior safety features, including an anti-telescopic design that minimizes impact during collisions, and advanced suspension systems to ensure a smoother and more stable ride.

The newly introduced LHB rake will comprise five AC 3-tier coaches, one AC 2-tier coach, nine sleeper class coaches and four general sitting coaches, providing a balanced accommodation capacity across different travel classes.

“This initiative reflects Indian Railways’ continued pursuit of offering world-class travel experiences across its passenger services,” an official release from Northeast Frontier Railway said.

“Through the modernization of its rolling stock, Indian Railways reiterates its commitment to meeting the changing needs and expectations of passengers while elevating the overall quality of travel,” it added.
