Guwahati, Nov 15 : Gauhati University observed the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel by organising a plantation drive along the banks of the Kalamoni River at Thakuria Para village in Azara.
The programme, led by the university’s NSS Cell, was inaugurated by Dr Ranjan Kr Kakati, Director of Students’ Welfare and NSS Programme Coordinator, who planted a Nahor sapling to mark the occasion.
Dr Kakati highlighted the importance of afforestation in addressing environmental challenges and said in an official address that “afforestation plays a crucial role in mitigating global warming and building stronger environmental awareness.”
More than one hundred saplings were planted by NSS volunteers from the university campus during the initiative, aimed at promoting ecological balance and encouraging community participation in conservation efforts.
