Cement, food grain shipments lift NFR freight in October
Maligaon (Guwahati), Nov 10 : Northeast Frontier Railway recorded a 3.9% increase in freight loading in the current financial year up to October 2025, moving 6.390 million tonnes compared with 6.150 million tonnes a year earlier.
October saw sharp gains across key commodities. Cement loading rose 142.9% year on year, food grains 71.4%, containers 7.7% and fertilizers 17.6%. Stone chips registered a 306.9% jump from the previous fiscal period.
The railway said the steady uptick reflects improving regional economic activity and has bolstered its freight revenues. It added that operational and technical upgrades are being pursued to enhance reliability and efficiency.
