Shillong: Man arrested for sexually harassing several girls in city

Shillong, Oct 26 : Police have arrested a 42-year-old man accused of stalking and sexually harassing several girls in public places across Laitumkhrah over the past few weeks.

The accused has been identified as Tamdorlang Risaw, son of (L) Restermen Wanniang, a resident of Nongrah Block II. He was apprehended at Mawsynram on Saturday morning by the Officer-in-Charge of Mawsynram Police Station during a coordinated operation involving multiple police units in East Khasi Hills.

Police said the arrest followed several FIRs filed by victims. On October 15, Laitumkhrah Police Station received two separate complaints alleging stalking and sexual harassment by the driver of a black Bolero at different locations around Laitumkhrah.

Investigations linked the incidents to the same suspect and vehicle. The earliest report dates back to May 2025, when the Bolero was seen near Don Bosco Square. Similar cases were reported on September 17 along Dhankheti–Malki Road.

On September 23, police said, the same vehicle stopped in front of a complainant and her friend near Don Bosco Laitumkhrah, where the driver allegedly engaged in obscene acts before fleeing. The latest reported incident occurred on October 13 near Loreto Convent.

The Bolero vehicle used in the offences was recovered during the operation. Police said the accused will be produced before the competent court for further legal proceedings.
