RPF Strengthens Rail Security, Cracks Down on Crime Across Northeast Frontier Railway in FY 2025-26

Guwahati, April 4: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has upheld its commitment to passenger safety and security, with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) reporting significant achievements during the financial year 2025–26.

According to an official release issued from Maligaon, the RPF intensified surveillance and enforcement measures throughout the year, resulting in strengthened security across railway premises.

The force carried out targeted drives against theft, touting, and other unauthorized activities, leading to multiple detections, arrests, and seizures of illegal tickets.

The RPF also took firm action against stone pelting incidents and encroachments, adopting a zero-tolerance approach to safeguard railway property.

In addition to enforcement, the force continued its humanitarian efforts, rescuing trafficking victims and assisting individuals in distress, including women and children.

Leveraging technology, the RPF made notable progress in recovering stolen mobile phones through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.

During the year, 2,355 mobile phones were blocked, 1,265 devices were traced, and 291 were recovered of which 264 were successfully returned to their rightful owners.

Additionally, data from the year shows that the RPF registered 219 cases of theft involving passenger belongings, leading to the arrest of 285 individuals.

In its crackdown on touting, 120 cases were detected, resulting in 128 arrests and the seizure of 757 tickets, with an estimated value exceeding ₹23 lakh.

The force also acted on 154 reported incidents of stone pelting, apprehending 116 individuals.

Efforts to remove encroachments saw a significant rise, with 699 cases addressed in 2025-26 compared to 437 in the previous financial year.

In its anti-trafficking initiatives, the RPF rescued 89 individuals, a substantial increase from 10 cases recorded the previous year.

Additionally, 1,125 persons in distress were assisted during the year.

Furthermore, the force reported major recoveries of contraband worth ₹1.29 crore and narcotics valued at ₹55.29 crore, underscoring its vigilance against illegal activities.
