Guwahati, October 9: In a significant event that resonated with the rich history and cultural heritage of Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled the statue of the revered Ahom General Bir Lachit Barphukan and ‘Saheed Smarak’ at the Bir Lachit Barphukan Park, Narangi Military Station, Guwahati.
A Tribute to a Legendary Warrior
Lachit Barphukan, an iconic figure in Assam’s history, is celebrated for his leadership and valour during the 1671 Battle of Saraighat where the Ahom Kingdom successfully thwarted the Mughal Empire’s advances. His military acumen and dedication to his motherland have made him a revered figure, symbolizing Assamese pride and resilience.
The statue’s inauguration saw a large number of visitors paying homage to the legendary warrior, reflecting on his indelible contributions to the Ahom Dynasty and the broader Assamese cultural landscape.

The park received the ‘Saheed Samarak’, a solemn tribute to the indomitable spirit and supreme sacrifice of brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation.
