Over 500 cadets from Army, Navy and Air wings join North Eastern Region event showcasing youth leadership, discipline and women’s empowerment
Guwahati, Nov 21: The 77th NCC Foundation Day was marked with a large youth gathering and patriotic programmes at Cotton University here on Friday, in a celebration organised by NCC Group Headquarters Guwahati on behalf of the North Eastern Region (NER) Directorate.

More than 500 cadets from the Army, Navy and Air Force wings took part in the event, which underscored the National Cadet Corps’ motto of “Unity and Discipline” and its role in grooming responsible and service-oriented young citizens across the Northeast.
The programme began with a Guard of Honour, followed by the rendition of the national song “Vande Mataram” by the girls’ band of St Mary’s School, Guwahati.
The cultural segment included patriotic performances, a ballet on Ahom general Bir Lachit Borphukan and presentations on women’s empowerment, drawing on regional history and contemporary social themes.

An information stall titled “Know Your NCC” was also set up to familiarise visitors and students with the organisation’s structure, training, camps and community activities and to encourage wider participation from youth in Assam and other northeastern states.
Addressing the gathering, Angoorlata Deka, Chairperson of the State of Assam Commission for Women, said the NCC continued to be one of India’s most impactful youth organisations.
She highlighted its contribution to character-building, leadership training and social responsibility, with a special focus on the increasing participation and empowerment of girl cadets through varied avenues of exposure and training.
As NCC completes 77 years of service, officers and cadets at the Cotton University event reiterated the organisation’s stated commitment to nurturing confident, disciplined and socially aware youth who can contribute to national development and to the vision of a “Viksit Bharat”.
The celebration in Guwahati also reflected the strategic importance accorded to the Northeast within the NCC’s outreach and training framework.
