Guwahati: Veteran journalist, social worker and former army officer Pushp Paul Singh passed away due to heart-related ailments in Guwahati on Sunday night. He was 58.

Singh had been in the field of journalism for over 30 years. He started his career with The Times Of India in Tripura, and he later worked with Eco Times and BBC and went on to start the first news portal from Northeast, Northeast Today.

Singh was also an ex-army man who had served in the Indian Army for 10 years.

Singh is survived by his wife and two daughters and son. Apart from media, Singh was actively involved with many social organisations and served society.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condoled the passing away of the veteran journalist on Twitter. He wrote, “Deeply pained to learn about the demise of veteran journalist Pushp Paul Singh, who was a well known face of media for 3 decades in the North East. I offer my sincere condolences to his aggrieved family & well-wishers. Om Shanti!”

Singh’s demise has been mourned by many journalists, politicians and civil society members who remembered him as a fearless, honest and dedicated journalist who always stood for the truth and justice.
