Tocklai Tea Research Institute To Ink Pact With Patanjali Ayurved

GUWAHATI: Tocklai Tea Research Institute will soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved Ltd to collaborate on advanced research to extract several chemical compounds from tea leaves and seeds to be used in medicine, cosmetics and wellness products.

This was disclosed by Acharya Balkrishna, managing director of Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, who called on Assam industries and commerce minister Chandra Mohan Patowary here on Saturday.

Set up by Tea Research Association (TRA) in 1964 in Jorhat, the Tocklai has been carrying research on all aspects of tea cultivation and processing covering the entire Northeast.

“This will open a new vista of opportunities in the tea sector and revitalise the industry significantly”, Patowary said.

The minister hoped that since Assam has a huge presence of medicinal plants, collaboration with Patanjali will hugely benefit the state.

Balkrishna stated that Patanjali will work with industries and commerce departments to promote medicinal plantation in Assam and buy back from farmers for their products manufactured in Sonitpur and Haridwar.
