Hawai (Arunachal Pradesh), Nov 13 : The Lt Bikram Singh Football Tournament, organised as part of the 63rd Walong Day commemoration, concluded on Wednesday at Hawai Stadium, celebrating sportsmanship and paying homage to the heroism of Lt Bikram Singh, who laid down his life in the Battle of Walong in 1962.

The event opened with a cultural showcase that included Bhangra, Peacock Dance, a jazz band, North East Warrior performances and Gatka martial arts, creating a festive atmosphere for players and spectators.
The final match was played between Hayuliang Circle and Walong Brigade, with the kick-off conducted by the Commander of Walong Brigade. The Assam Regiment Pipe Band performed during the half-time break.
In a tightly contested encounter, Hayuliang Circle clinched the title with a 1–0 victory. At the prize distribution ceremony, the winning team received Rs 1.5 lakh while the runners-up were awarded Rs 1 lakh. A player from the winners’ side, Bethang, was named Best Player of the Tournament for scoring three goals overall. All participants were presented with medals for their efforts.
An official statement issued at the event said the tournament “stands as a tribute to the courage, resilience and leadership embodied by Lt Bikram Singh and his troops during the 1962 War,” adding that it continues to inspire youth participation and uphold the Spirit of Walong.
