Guwahati Police acting tough against cattle smugglers
Intercepting six trucks carrying cattle near Khetri area of Kamrup district, Assam Police arrested 7 persons in connection with cattle smuggling on Tuesday and seized six trucks along with 109 cattle.
Taking to Twitter, Guwahati Police wrote, “A EGPD team from Khetri PS intercepted 6 trucks and detected 109 cattle, today morning. 7 persons have been detained in this regard. Investigation has been taken up in this regard.”

Cattle smuggling has become rampant after the introduction of the Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021 by the Himanta Biswa Sarma led government.
The Act is aimed at the preservation of cattle by regulating their slaughter, consumption and illegal transportation.
