Suspected cylinder leak triggers blaze at Post Office building; one resident critically injured

Guwahati (Assam), Nov 16: A couple lost their lives in a devastating fire that broke out on Sunday at the Post Office building in the Bharalumukh area of Guwahati, near Railway Gate No. 8.

The victims have been identified as Pompi Choudhury and Debabrat Choudhury.

According to initial information, the couple were preparing for their eight-year-old daughter’s birthday celebration when a suspected cylinder leak triggered the fire.

The blaze spread rapidly inside the building, leaving the two trapped.

Another resident, identified as Bimal Sharma, sustained critical injuries after jumping from the third floor in an attempt to escape the smoke and flames.

He was rushed to hospital and is undergoing treatment.

Fire tenders were deployed to the site and continued efforts to bring the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire is yet to be officially confirmed, and further investigation is underway.
