7.29 Lakh Vaccinated Across Assam Under Mega Vaccination Drive

GUWAHATI, Aug 17: A total of 7.29 lakh people have been vaccinated under the mega vaccination drive launched by Assam government on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 71st birth day on a single day on Friday.

With this altogether 2,15,95,309 people have received corona shots across the state.

The mega vaccination drive was launched with a prime focus to vaccinate the people who had been administered their first dose in the mega vaccination drive which was held on June 21, 22 and 23, this year.

Nagaon district administering highest number with 54,561 doses followed by Cachar with 50,630  and Tinsukia with 47,655 doses, an official statement of National Health Mission (NHM), Assam here said.

Thursday’s drive also facilitated administration of first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to eligible people.

The district health teams activated all the COVID Vaccination Centres (CVCs) which were functional during the mega vaccination drive held in June. Additional CVCs were also created for more coverage of 1st as well as 2nd doses. The step regarding activation of the previous CVCs were initiated to assist the eligible people to get their second doses without any hindrances or confusion.

“We are pleased to share that Assam has achieved a milestone figure by inoculating a total number of 6,79,973 doses today till 8 pm,” the statement of NHM, Assam here said.

“A total of 4,575 CVCs across the state were functional today to make the make the mega vaccination drive successful with Nagaon district administering highest number with 54,561 doses followed by Cachar with 50,630 and Tinsukia with 47,655 doses, the NHM said in the statement.

The state health department had set a target to administer 7.10 lakh doses during the drive.

1,72,05,985 people have received the first dose of the vaccine on Friday, while 43,88,324 have received the second dose, a senior health official said.

Considering the huge demand for the second dose and also the pending first dose, the state health department has proposed to observe the mega vaccination day on September 17, which the government said is ‘incidentally the birthday of the Prime Minister.;

The government has set the target to vaccinate 40,000 people. Immunisation centres have already been set up for the drive by the District Health Department in coordination with the district administration.;/

As a part of the mega vaccination drive, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited a vaccination camp organised at Athgaon here.

Sarma visited the vaccination centre and thanked the authorities of Marwari Sammelan, Guwahati branch for having organised the camp to help the state government in achieving the target of mega vaccination drive. He said that inoculating all sections of the people across the state for COVID pandemic needs active participation of social organisations also. Help such as from Marwari Sammelan will help the State government in reaching out to all the eligible population for vaccination. He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday which is celebrated as Sewa and Samarpan Divas, Marwari Sammelan’s gesture in organising a vaccination camp will add meaning to the day.
