2 ULB Cadres Killed in Police Encounter in Kokrajhar

GUWAHATI, September 18: Two suspected militants of newly floated militant outfit, United Liberation of Bodoland (ULB) were killed in an encounter with the security forces at the deep jungles of Ultapani area in lower Assam’s Kokrajhar in the wee hours of Saturday.

“In a late night/early morning operation, @KokrajharP has busted a camp of newly formed terror group ULB at Ultapani area. Two cadres have been declared dead after exchange of fire between Police/Security forces and terrorists. Two pistols and grenades recovered. @assampolice,” special director general of Assam Police GP Singh said in a tweet.

The slain militants have been identified as Jwngsar Mushahary and Janak Kumar Brahma, a senior olice official here said.

Two pistols and eight grenades were also recovered from the encounter site, he said.

The official said acting on a tip of about the presence of armed militants in the jungle, a team of police and Army launched a joint operation in Lungsung forest in Kokrajhar.

“When the team had approached the armed militants in the jungle, they opened fire targeting the security forces.  The police retaliated and later we found two persons were lying on the ground injured. They were taken to the RNB Hospital in Kokrajhar where they were declared brought dead,” the official said.

The little known militant outfit which was believed to be formed recently, had aired a video along with an official statement warning the state administration that it would go for a serial blasts in Assam of the government does not release founder chairman of National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) Ranjan Daimary alias DR Nabla immediately.

Ranjan Daimary has been in a special jail in the capital city in connection with October 30 2008 October serial explosions in Assam, which left more than 90 dead and 1,200 injured.;

The outfit was formed months after M Batha led National Liberation Front of Boroland (NLFB) returned to the mainstream in July this year.
