Amazon Aiming at Hassle-Free Returns
To add more convenience to its customers, Amazon is now offering Box Free returns.
On the one hand, this will reduce repackaging waste on the buyer’s part, and on the other hand, it will make the return process hassle-free.
In a news release, the company says, ‘Our goal at Amazon is to make buying online–and returning–as easy as possible, and we are expanding free, convenient returns on millions of items for our customers.’
From now onwards, this offer will benefit U.S. customers and soon expand to other countries, the news release states.
Now, customers can drop off the item without a box or label at Amazon Return Center after receiving a QR code.
Box Free returns are now available at Amazon Physical Stores, Kohl’s, and UPS stores across the United States.
At the physical stores, customers can hand over their package in the original manufacturer’s packaging after showing the QR code.
According to the release, this facility is available at 1,150 locations of Kohl’s stores, Whole Foods Markets, and 4,768 UPS Stores nationwide.
“Most items fulfilled by Amazon will qualify for a free return option,” Amazon said in the release.
Rate of Returns
Notably, the National Retail Federation estimates the average rate of return for online purchases was nearly 21% in 2021, which was 18% in 2020.
The growing number of returns is causing a massive problem for e-commerce platforms and the environment.
