মূলত বাৰ্দ্ধক্যজনিত কাৰণতে অসুস্থ হৈ আছিল গান্ধীবাদী নেত্ৰীগৰাকী।
জীৱনৰ অধিকাংশ কাল গুবাহাটীৰ কস্তুৰবা গান্ধী আশ্ৰমত থাকিয়েই সমাজৰ সেৱা কৰি গৈছিল শকুন্তলা চৌধাৰীয়ে।
১৯৪৬ চনত মহাত্মা গান্ধীৰ আদৰ্শেৰে উদ্বুদ্ধ হৈ কস্তুৰৱা গান্ধী স্মাৰক ট্ৰাষ্টত যোগদান কৰা শকুন্তলা চৌধাৰীয়ে ৰাজ্যৰ মহিলা শিক্ষা আৰু মহিলা সকলৰ বিকাশৰ বাবে গোটেই জীৱন নিজকে সমৰ্পন কৰিছিল।
