Junior Engineer Caught Red-Handed Taking Bribe

Assam government, under the direction of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, is acting tough against corrupt government officials.

This time, Debashis Das, a junior engineer of the directorate of municipal administration, was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption department while taking a bribe of Rs 25,000 in cash from a contractor.

Das allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 50,000 from a contractor of Tezpur for releasing funds for construction work of a road which was completed in the year 2020.

Contractor Kritikamal Tamuli did the work worth Rs 60 lakh.

The contractor received Rs 30 lakh for the work in March 2021, but the department has not yet released another Rs 30 lakh.

The raid was conducted after the contractor filed a case with the Anti-Corruption Branch.

The engineer was arrested while taking a bribe of Rs 25,000 out of Rs 50,000 in his office.

Police took the officer into custody and raided his residence too.

Police also seized various items from home.
