Alert Locomotive Driver Stops Train To Pass Wild Elephants In Hojai

Three Wild Elephants Were Killed Near Guwahati Few Days Ago

Showing presence of mind and diligence, the drive of a train stopped the train in Hojai, Assam on Friday evening and helped a herd of wild elephants cross the railway line safely.

This has avoided a repeat of the Sonapur incident some time back when a fast moving train killed two elephants near Khetri in Kamrup district.

The menace of wild elephants straying in the district has become very rampant in Hojai district and its adjoining areas as the jumbos deprived of their food habitats enter human habitations in search of food.

They go on rampage destroying paddy fields, banana plantations etc. occasionally trampling people to death.
